A dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed by the Myanmar local authorities on Thandwe, western Myanmar's Rakhine state, starting Sunday evening as unrest sparked, local dailies reported Monday.
The curfew is effective from 6:30 pm to 4:30 am.
The unrest was triggered by rumors that a local Rakhine girl was raped by two men of other race.
According to the report, the girl, 19, who came from Taunggup, was raped by the two men when she rode on a cycle carrier to Thandwe on Saturday.
After the incident, she made a complaint to the police station which was rounded up by local people on hearing about the story.
Ignoring the clarification by the police that investigation is underway into the case, some locals committed arson and destruction on some wards with at least four houses being burned and destroyed.
Entry and exit gates of the township were sealed to hunt down the two culprits, the report added.
