Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr has announced he will be travelling to Myanmar next week to meet with the country's officials.
Senator Carr is expected to hold talks with president Thein Sein and the opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as business representatives.
Myanmar's ongoing move toward democratic reform, Australia-Myanmar economic ties, international development assistance in education, and human rights including the situation in Rakhine State will be on the agenda.
Australia and Myanmar work closely on a range of issues including assistance on health, education, trade and economic issues to improve the lives of the Myanmar people.
Australian aid to Myanmar will more than double to $A100 million per year by 2015.
His visit to Myanmar will follow a one day trip to Singapore where he will hold talks with Singapore Foreign Minister K Shanmugam.
He will also be presenting on Australia's engagement with South-East Asia at the Fullerton Lecture series when in Singapore.
The series will bring together major figures in Asia-Pacific and international affairs to speak on foreign policy matters.
